Mysuseter III |
This piece of art is an abstract painting from 1991 which makes it contemporary. The painting is not recognizable, and features many different colors all mixed together which means it is abstract, just like the art I have chosen. This painting can take many different shapes and appeals based on how you look at it. To me the painting is saying something regarding human nature and our environment, and the relationship between mankind and the earth. This is very similar to "Lines that Link Humanity" in the way it causes the viewer to think of the relationship between man and earth.
The Trash Men |
This piece of art is actually many different, life size statues made from trash depicting men. This art was constructed to raise awareness about the growing problem of trash disposal and pollution. Like these men, my art piece is constructed from thousands of pieces of recycled metal and bottle caps. Even though my art may not be attempting to raise awareness about pollution, it can not help but to lead by example in resourcefulness
Abstract Painting |
This piece was created by Julie Mehretu from Ethiopia. My artist, El Anatsui is from africa, and his art takes many influences from traditional african art. Both artists are concerned about the future and what it holds, and they create omens in their artwork. They lead the viewer to think about how the world has changed, and if that change is for the better or worse.
Colorful Abstract |
This large painting is contemporary as the artist is still alive, and is abstract due to the not physical images. The painting has vertical dividers like “Lines that Link Humanity” that seem to separate different parts of the piece. Color is very important in this piece just like in the one that I have chosen. The lines and color definitely serve a much larger purpose of expressing an underlying emotion, that which the observer decides.
Gravity and Grace |
This piece of art is very similar to “Lines that Link humanity”, due to the fact that they are created by the same artist, El Anatsui. This piece of work called “Gravity and Grace” conforms to all of the types of artwork that
“Lines that Link Humanity” takes a part of including contemporary, abstract, recycle/reuse, and African art. This piece of work is just as large as the one I have selected and is presented in the same way, hung from a wall.
